A Year in Provence-July

At the beginning of July Mayle drove to Ramatuelle (picture on the right) to visit a friend. While on his way, he got stuck in between all the caravans moving to the South like a pregnant snake.

What else was there to do in between all this masses than to contemplate about some locals' worst nightmare-the tourists. On this matter, I completely agree with everything Mayle wrote. Tourists are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they bring money to a place and by doing so contribute to its survival. On the other hand, because of them many, till then, unspoilt places have been overbuilt, overpriced and overcrowded.

The only antidote, if you are tired of them, is to wander off the beaten track and savour some raw natural beauty before it is too late. That's life.

There is only one piece of vocabulary that I find worthwhile mentioning:
1. maladroit
a)done without skill
b) done with great skill
c)done half-heartedly
