reading

In the Marie Claire March issue I read last week a disturbing article about domestic violence. It was written by the bestselling Irish author Marian Keyes. If you are interested in finding out something more about her, here is her official website:

Anyway, let me go back to the topic at hand. Most women (and I am here no exception) hold that they cannot become preys to a molesting man. After all, women today are educated, work in top positions and earn their own money. Surely, it is just not going to happen that they find a man who is going to rape them, or monitor the mileage on their car etc.

Alas, even if you were so unlucky, you would immediately leave him. Only women who come from a broken home are molested. Everyone seems to suppress the thought that it could happen to just about every women in this world of ours. The trouble is that when it happens, you cannot escape your destiny so easily. Even if you do escape, the danger is always there that the molester will find you and carry out his vendetta. What you lead then could only be described as a life of constant fear.

To sum it up, you should be aware that domestic violence is a global disease. For instance, that domestic violence is the
most common cause of death worlwide in women (19-44) is the appalling truth. If you suspect that you or anyone you hold dear may be a victim of it, don't let anything stand in your way and ask for professional help. Only an informed abused woman can become a free woman.
